Austin is a decorated seven-year veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served three overseas deployments as an all-source Intelligence Analyst specializing in operations security, cultural competency, and global sociopolitical risk analysis. A fluent speaker of Mandarin, Japanese, and Manchu, Austin and received the U.S. State Department Critical Language Scholarship twice (2014, 2015) to study Mandarin in Suzhou and Xi’an, China. He holds a B.A. from Rutgers University in Chinese and Cultural Anthropology. Currently, Austin is a part-time consultant with an international pharmaceutical corporation, working as a corporate security strategist, and an Ed.M. candidate at Rutgers University’s Graduate School of Education.
